Bijal Joshi was from India and the victim of a horrible crime. She was the victim of gang rape that happened in 2003. Almost 5 years later the Indian legal system produced results. The culprits got their sentences today and some of the sentences are life. Bijal Joshi was not the one pushing for the case but it was her sister. The Bijal Joshi is tryly horrible. It all happened in on December 31 2003. Bijal Joshi went to a new years eve party with her friend. The male friend then took her to a hotel where his friends waiting. Then him and his friend raped the poor girl. Bijal Joshi survived the incident but didn’t survive the memories of the rape. One week later Bijal Joshi committed suicide. The reason why she took her life was because she felt that the legal system in India would not have punished the man. The family of Bijal Joshi persisted however and continued to put pressure on the police to make arrests. Most of the sick people who did this to Bijal Joshi were from prominent Delhi families. A long court case followed and not even the expensive lawyers they got didn’t save them. The unfortunate thing is that even though some of the culprits got life others got away with the crime. The court acquitted Pannalal Jaiswal, Anand Jaiswal, Harikrisnha Jaiswal, Seema Jaiswal, Shreya Jaiswal, Ashok Patel and Dr Yogesh Jadhav, who were accused of destroying evidence. Amongst the people who are going to spend life in prison are Bijal’s boyfriend Sajal Jain, Sugam Jaiswal, Chandan Jaiswal, Ashok Jaiswal alias Mandan and Dharmendra Jain. Bijal Joshi was raped by six people and all were friends and relatives of her friend. Bijal Joshi’s family has seen some justice after the crime but is this enough? I am not familiar with the legal system in India and what a life sentence means…is there parole? Nevertheless, to some extent this is somewhat of a pleasant ending for a horrible 5 years for the family of Bijal Joshi.

Bijal Joshi will now rest in peace. This crime is really appalling. I am disgusted. It is amazing how these people thought they were going to get away with it. I read foreign news and sometimes my jaw drops with some of the headlines. It is disgusting. I am glad that some people will pay from this.

I hope you guys got a good piece of entertainment by reading this article. Seriously… Everything sells in India…even emotions, feelings and lives. A very good case. And this special note to the ppl (politicians, police and Vaishali Joshi) behind this case…. I hope you have got what you wanted. A perfect example is set. A perfect framed case which has media, general ppl, NGO’s in their favour. It is not necessary that sons of rich ppl are always spoilt. Poor boys have to go through this perfect example of judgement because they are the sons of some rich people to work hard to make money. In India everybody who is rich is obviously rich by doing wrong things….Right. Lifers are given. Lives of the boys and their families are ruined. The children wudn’t see their father. The mothers will always cry on Diwali. There is no more happiness in 5 families. Sound good right. Being rich is a curse. Being rich and living in India is a bigger curse. Being rich, living in india and Innocence kills you. So to all those ppl who are rich, not street smart or not too clever…. PLZ STAY OUT. U cud be the one paying a price for actually nothing. U cud find urself in a Sting Operation like Shakti Kapoor and ruin urself and ur families forever. There is no law and no justice in India. All that works in Politics. By the way the article was good especially with the cigarratte marks stuff thing. How did actually Bijal die? Did she hang herself or was she murdered by her own family or the ppl who get benefits from her death. Think abt it. Do u trust the investigation done by the police? If money was the key here then all the boys wud b out by now. Use ur brains ppl. The world has changed. A brother kills a brother for a lil money or a share in the property. This case was way too simple to understand. And my last and sincere thanks to the media covereage. You media guys really helped. Hope u made good money and had good TRP rates.

One such incident is rare. Most of victims of crimes like these do not get justice in India. Look at the examples of hundreds of rape victims in the riots in Ahmedabad. There is not even any cases registered against the accused, let alone any arrests.

This is the reason India will always remain a third rate country where the police and courts are corrupt and cannot protect their own citizens.

Naina you got it horribly wrong - not sure if you are anyway related to the culprits. In fact the only blessing in India is to be “rich” - money power is used everywhere. Police, Politicians, doctorts and Lawyers/Judges can all be turned into your favor by money in India (recall if you got a drivers license without paying bribe). The rich brats (protected by their families) use this everywhere. If you follow news, there are incidents all around the country where witnesses turn hostile and cases go in favor of rich culprits. It takes little common sense to see that money has made all the difference. Either paying bribe, or hiring goons to threaten etc .. If it was not for few bravehearts like Bijal’s sister, NGOs and of late media power … the cries of poor victims like Bijal would never have got justice.
Naina - wake up and look into mirror … think if it were you in place of Bijal …
Life sentence is not enough … the cuplrits should have been awarded capital punishment … and their families should have helped law agencies .. if they brought up monsters and not humans .. they can claim some forgiveness from God by helping get justice for Bijal.
