Is this an example why youth car insurance for youth is so expensive?
These kinds of collisions are common amongst youth under the age of 25. This is one of the reasons why car insurance companies charge so much for car insurance. Growing up, when I was a teenager, I remember looking for car insurance in New Jersey, and thinking to myself why cant I find low rates on car insurance. After some years went by I realized that the reason why car insurance was and still is expensive for teenagers is the high risks associated with drivers that have less road experience. Most insurers charge higher premiums for auto insurance for teenagers. This is because these companies see most teen drivers as being more reckless and accident-prone than adults. There are ways to get better rates for insurance and that is by making sure a teenager that is interested in getting car insurance to have a clean driving record. It is essential that you emphasize the importance of observing traffic laws and of having a clean driving record to your teenager. Parents also have a responsibility in this matter. The parent must be able to advise their young son or daughter to be careful when driving, to avoid even the slightest incident that could result in a ticket regarding traffic violations that has to do with parking or speeding at all costs. And as the Briana Gaum incident has shown, accidents do happen, it is important to teach young people to be able to minimize the risks of anything like this ever happening. Having a clean driving record will be awarded with lower premium payments.
Briana Gaum died from a driving accident, probably associated with a mistake. Proper education of our country’s teenagers will not only result to better rates for car insurance, it will result in less accidents, much fewer losses from accidents like the one where Briana Gaum was killed in and much less tragic occurrences like this one.
I heard about this in the news. This is truly horrible tragedy.
I’m sorry… but I really don’t see how someone swerving to avoid a car coming into their lane and losing control of their vehicle on a major thoroughfare known for their high-speed is grounds for the claim “she was too inexperienced to handle this and shouldn’t be driving” argument. I am 31 years old.. and have been driving since I was 17. I can honestly say that at that speed, on that highway, in the wrong circumstance.. that could have been me.. or any of us. I’m glad you need a reason to toot your horn, but I don’t believe this tragic circumstance should be a prime example.
Sorry but you are making a terrible case using Briana as an example. I personally knew the passenger Tom, and I know firsthand that she didn’t do anything that any adult driver wouldn’t do. Two cars merged into a lane at the same time, she swerved to PREVENT an accident, and lost control. People go anywhere from 65-75 on that road, so imagine trying to avoid an accident at that rate of speed. She was doing the same thing as every other driver that day…and just because she was a young driver does not mean that this accident was her fault nor does it mean that her driving was below standard. This accident would be tragic if it were 2 adults that died as well…people assume that if an accident involves a kid, they are at fault. In this case, Briana was not at fault.
Though your concern for younger drivers is appreciated, perhaps better research of the example you used would have given you some support. Unfortunately I saw this blog about my best friend and I think Kate’s words speak for everyone who actually knew what happened.
This is very sad indeed. One of the things we teach in our program is proper adjustment of you mirrors so there are no blind spots. With the proper adjustment you can see the vehicle that is along side. Something this simple possibly could have avoided this tragedy. I am very sorry.
