The 1961 Chevrolet
Corvair Greenbrier van is the original minivan. The
Corvair Greenbrier is roomy, it can fit a total of 9 people.
It is the very first ever minivan produced in North America. It features a lot of space for people and cargo. In terms of the mechanics, the
Corvair Greenbrier features a 2.7 litter engine that is located at the rear; kind of like the similar Volkswagen van of that time period. If you are not that old to remember the
Corvair Greenbrier, you must have seen it in several films of the time. It was very popular in the 1960’s. the
Corvair Greenbrier was made by Chevrolet. It was the first passenger van made by Chevrolet. In the 1960’s convair cars were the first ones to feature air conditioning, however, the Greenbrier did not. 1965 was the very last year for the Greenbrier window van, which was retained only because of a few fleet orders, with 1528 being built. The Greenbrier was discontinued mid-year. The model was revised by changing front and rear suspension, improved heater and included air conditioning systems, numerous small engine and chassis refinements. These days I have seen the 44-47 year old van going for sale for up to $6,000. I am not sure if there is a market for the
Corvair Greenbrier but I am sure there are collectors out there who would love to get their hands on a
Corvair Greenbrier.
