Levonda Selph is a retired United States Army colonel and yesterday pleaded guilty to taking bribes for giving contracts in Iraq to a particular firm. Specifically,
Levonda Selph awarded contracts to a firm from Kuwait in exchange for gifts.
Levonda Selph of Virginia pleaded guilty and admitted accepting $4,000 in cash and a $5,000 vacation to Thailand from the Kuwait firm that got $12 million in contracts to operate a warehouse for the Defense Department in Iraq. In my opinion Levonda Selph made a few mistakes not only one. First of all she broke the law and took a bribe. That is disgusting and repulsive, US troops are in Iraq for a reason and that is not taking bribes. The reconstruction effort is stigmatized by actions like the one made by
Levonda Selph. The international community is now going to affirm its regard of the United States as a corrupt nation that has sunk in the cesspool of greed and oil. Secondly, if you decide to take the bribe, if you have battled your doubts and decided that taking the bribe will be beneficial, if you have weighed all the options, the toll it might have on your career on the nations image and so on, you are willing to disregard the negative impact taking a bribe might have on the image of the United States….why only take $9,000 as a bribe? I don’t understand, it is a $12 million contract….the bribe was not even a 1% commission. Complete disgrace! It is not only that
Levonda Selph has disgraced the United States and its Army by taking the bribe; she is doing so by only settling for so little. I guess they don’t teach negotiation skills in the army….Anyhow, joking aside, it is sad news. Media will be all over the
Levonda Selph story, and I am not talking about US media, I am talking international media. That is bad news. It is bad news not only for the US in general, but for every other corrupt American out there, who will from now on be offered less in every deal due to Levonda Selph.
