Yes, even though he was “supposedly” Muslim, he attended and worked at a baptist Church. The rumour you are citing was started from (not surprisingly) a ring-wing blog interested in defaming Muslims rather than dealing with facts. Next time, don’t believe everything you read on the internet.

This Vince sounds like bad news. I’m in the middle of reading a book about a murderer called Peter Manuel. It’s scary to think what’s going on in their heads.
What is strange is that no one even tries to speculate why he was on his way to Winnipeg. His wife is not interviewed. No one tries to speculate what might have driven him to make such a random evil act. Then again no one tries to ask what might have provoked him to engage in cannibalism. For such a human atrocity to have been committed with no provocation provokes me to ask why there isn’t more interest in the American TV tabloid press.
My problem with the situation is this:

Well, because random acts of beheading often are accompanied by Muslim extremists. Reference all the beheadings of westerners and hostages from 2002-2005.
Since the only alleged source of Li being a Muslim has been now eliminated screenshots of CBC’s webpage and newscasts, until further information comes forward it is not clear if Li is Muslim or not.
But it is a question many want answered.
My initial reaction was that this guy Li needed to suffer worse than his victim: He needed to be awake and fully conscious when he came to meet his maker in a long and agonizing event. However, you have to wonder if Li was overtaken by mental illness in the way that some people get…possessed, that is. He apparently told the judge he wanted to be killed for his offense. If he was somehow overtaken by some blinding insanity, what would it mean if he returned to everyday consciousness to become aware of his actions? Like Jekyl and Hyde, perhaps as one he would have no remorse whatsoever and as the other he would feel remorse and sympathy for his victim. In the second case, he would suffer just as much, perhaps more, than any other normal being. I think he needs to be punished, but it’s not clear what kind of punishment is appropriate. He would suffer once with the punishment and suffer again with the awareness that he had no capacity whatsoever to avoid his sick actions. Strangely, if he was possessed in this way, at least a part of his consciousness would be “innocent.” In some way, however, he would be euthanized, put out of his misery. That part of him would be getting off with light punishment because his mental anguish regarding the crime and its consequences would end. It’s a tough call. Perhaps the evidence and the case need to be thoroughly examined before deciding what is the most appropriate punishment for this guy.
Regarding the whole Muslim bit–is it relevant? Even if he did it for alleged Muslim motivations, the action itself couldn’t be used to condemn all other Muslims. He is a single sick individual. The same way one sick Christian or Jew does not make all of their peers guilty, the argument also goes for Muslims.
ttj, nice to see logical people visiting my blog. In my opinion Li deserves the worst possible punishment. Whether that is life or it is death time will tell. Actions like these should be punished in the worst possible way.
Dude, take it easy. Yeah, the act was horrible and justice has to be served, but we need to understand the context of this first. Maybe the boy had raped my daughter and was taunting me with it on the bus and I became upset. Maybe the boy had decapitated my entire family and shown me a photo of their heads and in a moment of rage I decided to return the favor, who knows. Yeah, justice has to be served - but lets get all facts on the table so it can be served fully.
how is making paranoid assumptions about the victim being guilty help getting the facts straight?
I’m offended by his 2nd degree charge. Does it really matter why he did it.? He’s a beast! Who cares if he has a zillion personality disorders.It don’t change the fact that his family is being mentally raped every day with more and more gruesome details of the crime. Eating him, finding a body bag full of tim’s body parts! How many more pieces are they gonna find..how much more does this family need to endure? Instead of the taxpayers paying to keep this douchebag in jail, the money should go to a better cause to pay for his friend’s and family’s therapy bills which will be numerous and never-ending. If this was my loved one i’d already be in the nuthouse.

Canadian law is based on precedence so assumingly this guys jail time will play out very similar to Mr. Bernardo and Karla hamolkas… Canadians so nieve will pay for this guys legal expenses, room and board, food, therapy, meds, and further education if he later so desires, for what next 25 years oh and did I mention upon his release will be handed money for a down payment (if not in full) of a new home and spending money! All courtesy of our Canadian taxpayers. Who can’t wait to have him reinstated with our society again? As Carolyn stated above why not use that money for the innocent bystanders or the victims’ family and friends? Well guess what my dear Carolyn sad truth is our taxpayer’s dollars were only good enough to offer them 1 day of grief counselling!!! 1 day!!!!!! But for the criminal we have an unlimited supply of tax dollars to their avail!! We seem to have our justice system all backwards the innocent people get screwed while criminals and beasts live like royalty!!! And while I am here to nohardtimes comment regarding the people or men on the bus… can u imagine witnessing a crime of this nature? don’t be so quick to point fingers, read the news stories well! no one else would have had a chance never mind that while the crime of killing the victim happened most fellow passangers were asleep only to be woken up and told to get off the bus. few even knew what was ging on. you make a few really good points here. I said what i said out of frustration rather than anything else. I know that if I was there i would be frozen in awe I wouldn’t know what to do. It really is sad that this man will be taken care off. Its like he will spend the rest of his life in a bed and breakfast sedated so he wont even need to think about what he did…It really is disgusting…

As i said earlier, if this was my loved one i’d already be in the nuthouse and my life would pretty much feel like it’s over.If Tim was my child and this is how he died, i’d need help to pay for all the shots of Thorazine id need to practically keep me catatonic so i’m not having nightmares about this day and night!Heck..i don’t even know Tim and i get palpitations and have had nightmares about this animal ever since the story broke. It’s like Primal what this guy did….like how the tribes deal with evening a score in the amazon jungles. HIDEOUS.Society always wants to know why, juries always want to know motive, even though u don’t technically need motive to prove guilt in a case such as this, or ones as brutal as this. People need to start realizing that there are people are there that are EVIL. They are just born that way,unlike you and i, and have no conciounce.We don’t need explanations. I really don’t know what to say in terms of how would you punish a person like Li?? Life in prison? Take his life? Torture? Send them to the Saudis for an old fashioned beheading? Dismember him while alive? Skin him with a dull knife? Councel him? Forgive him? Just think about how many people he has scared for life. The boys parents and relatives, the friends,his own family, his wife, his parents…the list can go on and on. What does someone like this deserve?
keep in mind people this man was most likely suffering a serious mental illness. He has a “broken head” he is not evil in that he didn’t plan the attack. Like a lot of schizoprenics, they suffer from a mental illness, they are not inherently evil. Consider now women who abuse their children, they get much much less of a sentence, and I would consider them “evil”, but some in society will make excuses for their behaviour. Evil actions don’t equate to sentence length.
I have no idea either, but since we have no death penalty here the most we can hope for is to be locked up for life in a max security prison, unfortunatly courtesy of the Canadian taxpayers. I wish they would bring back public hangings. I’d be the first one in line to see this piece of Sh*T gasp for his last breath and struggle against the noose. In this case Tim looks like my friends, actually he reminds me of my boyfriend…cap…goatee, we both like tattoes and motorcycles….no this one hits too close to home.One more thing as well..in my opinion the other passengers did there best. I don’t think i would have done any different if some fruitcake had a rambo knife and was going psycho on someone. Your survival instinct kicks in and u just wanna get away from the trauma.Although Tim lost his life, had the passengers got involved it may have been many more funerals taking place instead of one. I feel no animosity towards them at all….they were victims too.
Incidents like these just make me think…how really far are we from our primal ancestors. We sugar coat things with scientific terminologies such as mental illness…and schizophrenia…and so one. What separates us from animals? Engineering math and complex social structures? Fake vomit, rubber sneakers with lights in the heals? Cars, sex toys? Really, What is it that separates human kind from animals?
I have to disagree with jak’s comment about evil.If everybody out there who was suffering from mental illness or emotional disturbance went ballistic and beheaded, gutted and ate people i don’t think it would be safe to leave our homes, (and even then)I just believe, and maybe it’s simplistic of me, that some people are bad eggs…born rotten and u can’t rehabilitate these people. When u put them in jail u essentially put them on ice. When they get out they get right back to it and as a matter of fact i believe they are even more dangerous than when they go in. Usually they’ve been taught and shared stories with other violent criminals which makes them smarter and better able to carry out and execute there crimes and not get caught the next time around. You can’t cure someone who has no conciounce. We can have this debate over mental illness or evil forever but it ain’t gonna change my mind about this subhuman piece of sloth. We haven’t come that far from our tribal ancestors. Were still a primitive society in the early stages of evolution…relatively a young planet so to speak. WE GLORIFY VIOLENCE, IN THE MEDIA, IN THE MOVIES, ON TV WE GET OFF ON GORE, WE STOP AND GROPE AT CAR ACCIDENTS ALOT OF US, AND THE WAR AFTER WAR AFTER WAR AND WE STILL KEEP ON FIGHTING. Atleast in the animal kingdom they kill to eat. Were the only species who kills for money, passion, jealousy etc. In the animal kingdom they kill to eat cause it’s the natural food chain, survival of the fittest so to speak.
